What is Inclusive Mobility and why should you care?

The future of mobility is in a state of unprecedented reform. From ride sharing apps such as Lyft and Uber, to automated transit vehicles; the way that we move ourselves and goods is rapidly changing.

It is widely accepted that the financial (and environmental) cost of owning private vehicles will surge in the next decade and as a result, companies are working hard to find solutions that will meet the demands of the future. But just like the world we are building, these mobility solutions must be inclusive.

“As our quality of life degrades as a result of congestion, and as people are excluded from mobility options, they are less willing to accept the status quo and more willing to experiment with alternative mobility options. Technological advances can be harnessed to make mobility more inclusive and improve quality of life. Advances in artificial intelligence, machine learning, data analytics, connectivity and automation are being applied to mobility. But they cannot happen in a vacuum.” Writes Michelle Avary, Head of Automotive ad Autonomous Mobility at World Economic Forum.

Avary talk about how future mobility needs to be fit for purpose but also, that it needs to be safe for and serve everyone.

brightsmith will be keeping an eye on the new Toyota Startup Awards in Barcelona next month where they will be judging innovations that help provide better mobility for individuals with physical impairments, elderly people, children and those living outside urban areas. When you hear the phrase “Inclusive Mobility”, these are the people that must be taken into consideration.

Future Mobility that serves everyone, not just those who can afford it.
